Five people were arrested by the Prince George RCMP while they carried out a search warrant at Millennium Park.
On Thursday, the Prince George RCMP raided the camp at Millennium Park and recovered several firearms, drugs, and equipment used in drug deals.
Just before 5 o’clock on Thursday, officers from the RCMP Downtown Safety Unit carried out a search warrant at the encampment, which was situated near the intersection of First Avenue and George Street. They were assisted by frontline police and members of the Emergency Response Team.
According to Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, “Investigators have observed a sharp increase in the amount of illicit drug use and drug trafficking in recent months.” As a result, “our specialized units are making concerted efforts to target those engaged in the trafficking of illicit substances, as the violence associated with drug trafficking poses a threat to our community.”
From the campground, police recovered machetes, knives, weapons, fentanyl, numerous different kinds of prescription pills, and equipment used in drug deals, such as scales.
Five people were detained during the execution of the warrant but were released while the whole investigation was being completed. Police were aware of all five, according to the RCMP statement.
The inquiry is still ongoing.
