Do you enjoy the fall? When the leaves start to change color, wild cranberries start to smell, and a cool breeze starts to feel a little bit nippy.

Exploring the trails in Prince George in the fall is a pleasant experience that engages all of your senses. I want to share with you my favorite five fall-themed walks.

Fang Mountain

This amazing mountain can be found in a remote area called Evanoff Provincial Park. The trek is really interesting, with many creek crossings, large rocks to climb, and some difficult sections as you ascend more than 1200 meters. Every time I climb this trail, I’m in awe of the breathtaking scenery I encounter. To have a refreshing beverage at Fang Mountain, make sure to stop by Trench Brewing before beginning this climb and purchase some Fang beer.

Mount Pope
It takes around an hour and a half to travel there from Prince George. You can see Stuart Lake from here, which in my opinion is the most gorgeous lake in the province. This hike is ideal if you enjoy taking in the entire scene. Beautiful views may be seen of Stuart Lake and the surroundings. If you want to see some new surroundings or even explore some nearby caverns, you can take a different route back down. The length of this hike is roughly 14 kilometers. At the top, there is a wonderful area with a bench and chairs where you can have a snack. Birch & Boar, a store on storied George Street, sells delectable nibbles for takeout.

Mount Fraser:
Fraser Mountain is about 90 minutes to the west of Prince George, and it’s a great 10-kilometer walk. This hike has lots of ups and downs, and you’ll see some beautiful scenery along the way. When you reach the top, there’s an old wooden fire tower to look at, but be careful because it’s a bit wobbly. About two kilometers into the hike, you’ll reach a point with fantastic views of Fraser Lake and the mountains in the Bulkley Valley. There are many great spots along the trail to stop for lunch. After your hike, you can relax on the lovely patio at Northern Lights Estate Winery, which overlooks the Nechako River. It’s a perfect place to unwind and share a bottle of wine with a friend.

Fort George Canyon is a beautiful place for a walk in the woods and a hike down into a canyon along the Fraser River. You can enjoy this hike or go snowshoeing here in any season, but it’s especially pretty in the fall when the leaves change color. People really like how the view by the river changes when the water levels go up and down. It’s also nice because it’s just a short 20-minute drive down Blackwater Road from the city. Don’t forget to bring some food for a picnic by the water. We like to get sandwiches and snacks from Homesteader Meats for a tasty and quick meal.

These four hikes are just a small sample of the great trails near Prince George. There are many more amazing hikes and walks in the area that will impress you.
