Prince George inhabitants can continue basking in the sunny and warm temperatures we have seen the previous few days.
Hours of daylight highs are expected to hover around plus 10 until Thursday according to Environment Canada.
Meteorologist, Derek Lee said if we do get snow at this point, it won’t be sticking around very long.
“The chances of it sticking to the ground are pretty low for this time of year. Our daytime highs are warm enough that any type of snowstorm that happens should be melting throughout the day as our average temperature for this time of year is around seven degrees with an overnight low of minus five.”
He added while the conditions are pretty balmy, they are not out of this world.
“Though we are seeing temperatures jump as high as ten degrees – it is only about three degrees above usual for this time of year. We are warming up and seeing longer daytime hours – as we arrive in spring, the longer daylight hours help us get those temperatures up when we are cloud free during the day.”
Lee specified these heater temperatures won’t result in spring flooding but water pooling is a standard problem on city streets this time of year.
“All that snow that has been neglected over the Prince George area last month must be melting pretty quickly over the next few days. Water pooling is something we are keeping in mind in terms of risk that occurs with warmer temperatures.”
“Right now, these temperatures don’t convert to higher elevations temperatures, so when we do get more heating as we get into April and May, the warm temperatures can get as high as the top of the mountains and that will kickstart the melt from the top of the mountain,” added Lee.
