The suspicious death was not the result of homicide, according to police and the B.C. Coroner’s Service.

Last week, a decomposing body was discovered at a campsite in a wooded region close to the city center, prompting Prince George’s RCMP to launch an investigation into a possible homicide. However, the police force has since concluded that the death was not the product of a crime.

The Prince George RCMP’s media relations officer, Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, says that the Serious Crime Unit has finished its portion of the investigation and has handed it over to the B.C. Coroners Service, which will continue its own investigation. We are sending our condolences to the victim’s friends and family.

On June 9, at around 2:00 p.m., police were summoned to the spot after learning that a body had been discovered in a remote area beneath a residential community close to Carney Street in the 2000 block of First Avenue.

“The body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, having been exposed to the elements for a number of days,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The B.C. Coroners Service and the Serious Crimes Unit assumed charge of the investigation.

The campsite’s surroundings were blocked off as police carried out their investigation.
