Prince George is not a major city, but because we are not too close to the bright lights of other cities, we can still view a lot of stars at night. You’ll be amazed by the variety of stars you can view if you walk a little outside the city. Here are four places where you can enjoy seeing the stunning night sky.

Salmon Valley

Salmon Valley is just a short drive north of downtown Prince George on Highway 97. It’s a place with wide fields and open skies, and you can see really great views of the night sky there. You can also check out the Wright Creek and Salmon River that run through the area. Or, if you want to have a fun night under the stars, you can stay at the Salmon Valley Campground right by the Salmon River.

Eskers Provincial Park

Eskers Provincial Park is about 40 kilometers away from the city. There are many walking paths around lakes and marshes there. The park got its name from long, winding gravel ridges made by old glaciers. It’s a forest with lots of different types of trees and plenty of animals. Because it’s far from any city lights, the nights there are super dark, and you can see lots and lots of stars on a clear night.

LC Gunn Trail

The LC Gunn Park Trail goes between Highway 16 and Highway 97 South and goes along the southern part of the Fraser River’s banks. Even though the city lights might make the stars look a bit dimmer, the views from LC Gunn Park are really nice, so the trip is worth it. You can still see some stars above the city skyline, which gives the night sky a city-like feel.

Cranbrook Hill

Cranbrook Hill is on the west side of Prince George and offers clear views of the sky. It also has some nice houses and old barns. Even though it’s close to the city, it feels like you’re in the countryside.

When you think about places to go to look at the stars and take pictures of the night sky, these are a few that you might think of. There are many places near Prince George where you can watch the stars. Also, always make sure to get ready and stay safe because wild animals are active at night. And please be considerate of people who live nearby and might not enjoy staying up very late at night. Also, respect their private property.
