Controlling something is the definition of ownership. Owning something gives us the authority to decide what happens to it, be it a house or an automobile. What about our bodies, though? Possession is defined as having total control or rights over something by Black’s Law Dictionary. This brings up a crucial query: who is the owner of your body?

The question of bodily ownership has gained a lot of attention in the legal community lately. When a plant is genetically changed, for example, the plant is controlled by the corporation that holds the patent for that modification. In the event that the altered pollen finds its way to a nearby farmer’s field, the impacted crops remain the property of the firm. In a similar vein, do persons who receive mRNA vaccinations that modify their DNA now belong to the corporation that made the modification? Though the entire ramifications of this are still unknown, it’s likely.

Throughout history, the only period in which body ownership was formally established was during the slave trade. Laws at the time dictated who was in charge of a slave’s body. This meant that slaves were treated more like property than like human beings, and they had little say in their own medical care or ways to avoid getting sick. Their lack of autonomy over their bodies is comparable to how animals are handled, in that they have no input over their medical treatment.

Health Canada may soon determine our medical care, so we won’t be able to express our preferences. Health Canada now has the same authority over us as slave masters have. Nothing is more crucial than being in charge of your own body and selecting the medical care you receive. But this is a right you may be losing. Your body is becoming more uncontrollable.

Health Canada is losing control of this situation in order to safeguard intellectual property rather than public health. Patents are protected by drug laws, not persons. This is how it operates:

First off, the government defines “drug” so broadly that, depending on how it’s used for therapy, even water might qualify.

Second, selling a “drug” without government approval is illegal. So, you can’t use any treatment without government permission.

Drug approval is made extremely expensive by the government, making it accessible primarily to those who own patents. Companies can set drug pricing thanks to patents. Natural medications cannot be patented; only artificial pharmaceuticals are. Thus, in Canada, the only medications that can be used to address major health problems are chemical ones.

Health Canada will now increase the cost of approving medications for less serious conditions as well. This implies that only chemical medications will be licensed to treat any illness. Health Canada now has authority over your physical being. Soon, your only option for treatment will be the drugs they approve. It resembles being a slave as you can only obtain what your master permits.

Large corporations with patented goods will dominate the market, preventing us from accessing any natural remedies. The reforms made by Health Canada must be opposed. Strict penalties for small-scale natural remedy enterprises and healthcare providers have been surreptitiously inserted into the statute. These fines are too great for them to bear.

With Bill C-368, MP Blaine Calkins is attempting to undo these modifications. On April 18, 2024, it is scheduled for discussion in Parliament. To get your MP to endorse this measure, we need your assistance. To help you easily lend your support, the NHPPA has created an email campaign and petition. Visit nhppa.org to email your MP and sign the petition.

We must take action in order to retaliate against Health Canada’s control over our bodies. Our freedom to select how to prevent and treat diseases cannot be taken away from us. Sign up with the NHPPA to change the world. Get their newsletter, volunteer, and make a donation. In order to oppose influential interests, we must band together. To make a change, we need your help. We have a second chance to get Parliament to listen to us. Natural medicine is very important to Canadians. Let’s put that enthusiasm to work and change things.
