On January 18th’s council meeting the advisory committee discussed the city’s accessibility issues regarding broken, cracked, and damaged sidewalks. Sidewalks such as these hinder people with disabilities, specifically those who use wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility aids to get around. This issue could lead to people walking in the road to avoid the damaged sidewalks, leading to car crashes and injuries.

The idea of an increase in the Capital Project budget regarding new and rehabilitated sidewalks work with priority given to sidewalk rehabilitation was first proposed in 2023. It seems that funding towards the safety of those with mobility aids is just beginning to come into effect.
