A storm with the potential to produce nickel-sized hail, severe wind gusts, and heavy rain is being monitored by meteorologists.

Through 9:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday, July 6), Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Prince George area.

According to a post on the agency’s website, meteorologists are monitoring a storm that is “capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail, and heavy rain.” “The severe cell is over Wansa Lake, 40 kilometers east of Prince George, and is moving south at 10 kilometers per hour.”

If severe weather is expected, locals are warned to seek shelter.

When approaching or existing thunderstorms are generating huge hail, strong winds, and/or heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorm warnings are issued.
